What better way to enjoy the great outdoors than being on the water during the day and sitting in front of a campfire each night. In recent years this has become a sport but, at one time kayaking was a way of life. The affordable kayak has been used as a means of transportation for hundreds of years. And still is the ultimate choice for an ocean watercraft.
Now that the decision has been made what type of ocean watercraft you will be using. The choices are truly unlimited! You could be a handy man and build the ocean watercraft yourself or you could choose to purchase an inflatable boat. Let your choice be much like your personality. When you have made a decision to use a kayak you need to remember, as with any sporting activity safety should always come first. Simple precautionary tips will go along way with accident prevention. A list of common procedures and safety methods are listed below.
(1)Check the weather conditions for the time period of your trip.
(2)Know the waters of the area that you’ll be in and if you don’t hire a guide or take along someone that is well versed in the conditions and temperament of the water
(3)Carry a first aid kit in your camping gear at all times and it’s also wise to have one on your kayak
(4)If necessary, take a class and learn how to handle your vessel.
(5) Become intimate with the workings of the vessel before you take it out on the big trip.
(6) Always wear a life jacket that’s been approved by the Coast Guard.
(7) Carry flares and other safety equipment so you can be noticed in case of an emergency.

(10) tell the officials of the park you’ll be camping at your daily itinerary.
Last but not least remember that all watercrafts are not created equal. There are some crafts that were made for gentle waters and other are made for white water rafting. When you go shopping for a craft just tell the sales rep that’s helping you what type of water adventure you will be undertaking. He/she will be able to direct you to the perfect craft for you.
