Camping Gear For The Perfect Trip

Camping is great fun and whether you are camping alone, with a buddy, or with your family, it is important to make sure you pack all the essential camping gear that you may need.  Many times campers have staked their spot and pitched their tent only to realize they were missing that one item they really needed.  By planning ahead, you can make sure you are never in that position.  Having all the right supplies will make your camping trip safer, more relaxing and more enjoyable!

The most important camping supply is a tent.

There are many reliable outdoor tents for purchase either in a sports store, outdoor store or online.  The most important factors for choosing a tent are size and weather capabilities.  Make sure you choose a reliable outdoor tent that will comfortably sleep the number of people in your party and will be able to handle the inclement weather common for the season and area you are camping in.

Another important supply is a cooking stove.  Cooking stoves are also available in all manner of sizes, from a single burner to a mini-grill.

The most important factor in choosing a cooking stove is the fuel: make sure you choose a fuel you are comfortable with and that is available in your area.

You can never have too many sources of light when you are camping.  While most durable flashlights are battery powered, many lanterns use propane or kerosene as a fuel source.  It may pay in the long run to match the fuel type to that of the stove you choose.  By choosing the same fuel source, you can usually swap back and forth between the lantern and the stove in case you run out of one or another.

Unless you plan to hunt or fish for all your camping food, a quality cooler is irreplaceable.

Again, make sure you get one large enough to meet your party’s needs.  Having more than one cooler may also be helpful, especially if you use one for frozen items and the other for refrigerated items.  A cooler acting as a “freezer” will be opened less and will stay frozen longer.

There are also many smaller items that may get left behind but that are equally important.  A knife is perhaps the single most useful tool you can bring on a camping trip.  Affordable buck knives are available everywhere and investing in one or two can pay dividends.

You also may want to pack scissors, tape, rope, extra tarps and snap & seal plastic bags.

Perhaps the single most important piece of camping gear and one that is often overlooked is a quality first aid kit.  Whenever you are camping, safety should be the number one priority.  A well stocked first aid kit could prove to be a lifesaver.  Remember, camping should be fun and by making sure you pack the right gear, you will ensure a memorable experience!
