Camping gear that you must pack

February 25th, 2009

Most often, in the enthusiasm of preparing for a camping outing, we forget some of the absolutely essential stuff that must always go in the bag. Let’s take a quick review of what these are. Firstly, in goes the First Aid box. Always make sure to include the basic stuff like aspirin, anti-itch ointment, diarrhea medication, tincture and bandages.

A flashlight is compulsory, not just to find your way around in the dark but also as it can serve as an emergency distress signal. Modern flashlights have LEDs in place of incandescent bulbs which perform better and last longer. Whichever you choose, do remember to pack the batteries as well!

A good insect repellent goes a long way in making sure you enjoy a good night’s sleep. The two options are either an eucalyptus based one which is non toxic or a DEET based cream/bar which is a tried and tested option for 50 years now. If you are aware that the destination area is mosquito intensive, then you could include an optional mosquito net.
