Creatures of the Campground

August 3rd, 2009

My sister is not a fan of bugs. Whether it’s spiders, crickets, moths, bees or mosquitoes she hates anything that flies or crawls around outside. So, when she agreed to go camping with me, I knew we would have to bring along special protection to avoid any freak outs. She can handle bugs when they’re outside but can’t stand them near her bed or food, so I knew she would be ok while hiking but that we would need something more for the tents. I researched and found several products that would help to ease her transition into the “great wilderness.”

We purchased a heavy duty zippered tent with aluminum poles and added extra mosquito netting to the inside. In addition to looking like something from Arabian Nights, it provided extra protest against those sneaky little buggers. We also used a mesh screen protector over the roof vent; it still allowed plenty of air flow into the tent but prevents the smallest gnats from getting through. Lastly, we added extra protection in the form of bug repellant and placed sonic bug zappers at the entrance to the tent. All in all we were well protected and bug free inside the tent.
