When selecting an outdoor tent, the most important thing to think about is how much room you will need. A lot of tents are advertised as “two person”, “six person”, etc., but that doesn’t mean that that number of people will comfortably fit in the tent! Although you may be able to pack that number of people in while they are lying down, you will want to select a larger outdoor tent if you want to have room to move around. For example, imagine that it is raining and you want to gather six people in your “six person” tent to play cards. You will have a hard time doing so with any “six person” tent on the market!
A good rule of thumb is to multiply the number of people you want to fit in your tent by 1.5 if you want comfortable sleeping arrangements. If you want comfortable “hanging out” space, multiply it by two. So you will actually need a twelve person tent if you want to play cards with six people! Fortunately, outdoor tents are inexpensive per square footage, so getting a larger tent shouldn’t blow your budget.
