The basics camping needs are a tent, sleeping and cooking equipment. There’s a big difference between car camping in provincial parks in the summer, and going off on a five-day hike in the wilderness in October with no access to running water or toilets.

What’s needed for an outdoor adventure? The first thing to get would be a quality tent. Always make sure the your tent has a fly to keep it dry in unpredictable weather. Also hanging a tarp over your eating area to protect in case of rain. Sleeping gear is personal, because what’s comfortable for one person may not be for another.

A cooler will be needed for storing perishables, something to keep the animals from your food, a small stove for cooking, drinking water and matches or a lighter. A lot of first-timers expect to cook their meals on an open flame. But when a rain day pops up, you can’t start a campfire. Always keep enough fuel for your camping stove. Don’t forget to bring a can opener for canned goods.

Consider a set of nesting pots and pans for the best cooking gear when camping . Make sure not to forget your plates, cutting utensils and a wash basin or board. Don’t forget the headlamps and flashlights. You might have to add drinking water, toilet paper, insect repellent, clothes pins, sunscreen and a first-aid kit to your list.
